Make a cute pompom caterpillar
Here is a cute activity for your caterpillar project and this makes a great summer camp activity. In this project, the intent is to make the caterpillar move, so if that is not your goal, you can skip the popsicle stick bit and just move on to the next step. Adult supervision is required with hot glue guns. Let’s get started.
Materials to make one paper craft caterpillar.
1. Pompoms, 2 popsicle sticks, corrugated cardboard, and googly eyes.
2. Your regular cutting, painting, and gluing materials.
Steps to make one caterpillar.
1. Arrange about 6-7 pompoms in a line. This will help you know how long your piece of cardboard needs to be.
2. Cut the cardboard to size and rip off the top layer to expose the grooves. This will help the movement of the caterpillar.
3. Paint the cardboard and popsicle sticks black.
4. Time to glue. Hot glue guns work best. Bend the cardboard and begin glueing the pompoms from the middle. Bending it helps the pompoms to stay together when the caterpillar arches its back. After the middle 4 pompoms are glued, attach the popsicle sticks to the cardboard and continue to glue the pompoms over the sticks.
5. Glue the eyes and wait for the project to dry. Your craft is ready to move.
